Usually, cron uses the email address root@hostname to send system notifications. By default, qmail does local delivery of such messages because server hostname presents in /var/qmail/control/locals etc. Therefore, qmail can't do local delivery because by default, there is no Maildir folder in root's homedir. To receive the messages sent to root@hostname in your own mailbox email@address and avoid local delivery it needs to create qmail alias using the following instructions: echo "email@address" > /var/qmail/alias/.qmail-root chown alias:nofiles /var/qmail/alias/.qmail-root /etc/init.d/qmaild restart
